Story, full of sound...

Electronica Selenium was founded in 1958 in the city of Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Brazil, by 3 brothers of first generation German immigrants. Since then Selenium specializes in the production of the highest quality loudspeakers and professional sound re-enforcement components (transducers, woofers, subwoofers, mid-bass, drivers, tweeters and horns) for PA and instrument amplifications systems.

 Selenium company

With over 400 employees and annual turnover of over 60 Million USD $, Selenium is the continental leader in Loudspeaker production in Latin America and the second largest supplier in the US market, both under the Selenium brand and as OEM manufacturer. The company has established a strong reputation as an outstanding quality loudspeaker producer and developer. Selenium products, manufacturing plants, technology and management techniques comply with the highest European standards. In spite of that Selenium products sell for the lowest prices on the high-end market segment.

Selenium's Professional Audio Line has more than 170 products in its portfolio. The company has been expanding its activities into other segments such as automotive audio products and PA systems. Selenium has recently acquired Audiosync, the second largest manufacturer of instrument amplification systems, power amplification and PA equipment in Brazil. Thanks to this operation Selenium expands its product line into these important segments, and obtains significant market share under the three brands that make up Audiosync (Warmmusic, Loudvox and Appotek). In pro-sound speaker components alone Selenium has a market share of nearly 77% in Brazil and 36% in Instrument amplifiers (guitar, bass guitar and keyboards). Brazil is the 9th economy in the world with a market of almost 190 million people.

Selenium factory

Selenium has one of the world’s largest and most modern installed facilities for loudspeaker and transducer manufacturing. Located in an area of more than 40 thousand square meters, the factory is certified by the International norms of ISO9001 and QS9000. It has two fully automated production lines and an assembly capability of mounting one loudspeaker every 8 seconds. Large woofers and key components are assembled manually. There are automated sections, controlled by an efficient computerized structure set up by Toyota of Japan, which enables optimum integration and agility. The production capacity is over 4 million loudspeakers per year. In addition to that Selenium group has just inaugurated a new and modern factory in northern Brazil for the production of its newly acquired brands of Instrument amplification and PA.

Selenium's production is 100% vertically integrated; it produces every speaker part under one roof. The company’s own R+D is responsible for the development of practically all its product components. Selenium has a complete plant to manufacture cones (with special cellulose pressed and non pressed pulp and carbon fiber); machines to wind coils; equipment to design and build frames, cast them and glue all parts together with special glue mixes. The company also develops innovating techniques in design, conception, product efficiency and manufacturing processes, such as QFD (Quality Function Deployment), allowing the development of more competitive products and assuring consumer's needs are met to perfection.

The factory has its own team of engineers and developers and a research laboratory with equipment capable to perform the most advanced tests. Selenium owns over 28 patents in design and technology for better sound reproduction, such as: DPD (Driver Protection Device); QCF (Quartz Composite Fiber) MCS (Multi-Cooling System); SPS (Sound Protection System); IPF (Impregnated Polymer Fiber), DFC (Direct Floor Cooling).

Selenium's second plant is situated in a tax free zone in Mannaus on the North tip of Brazil closer to the main international export markets. It is devoted to production of finished products such as: professional PA systems, musical instrument amplification and sound solutions like Line Arrays and fixed installation speakers. Selenium has three fully owned subsidiaries with sales offices and logistic centers in USA, China and Europe.

Despite Selenium's somewhat limited presence in Europe until now, the company is embarked in a major transformation of its structure and scopes which shall bring it to becoming one of the most listened brands in the world and one of the most profitable in the market. We represent a serious and competitive option for all large manufacturers of sound cabinets and professional PA systems around the world and a significant number of them are already amongst our clients. We also represent a value for money high performance transducer provider for smaller manufacturers, craft-men developers and custom integrators. We are aiming to become one of the best selling and best quality loudspeaker providers in Europe too.
